A Gift to a Friend
I would like to talk about a gift which is a pair of woolen gloves. I guess it was special for my friend because it was knitted by me with my nimble fingers. On that day, I thought to give it to my friend as usual, like a box of chocolates. However, it was Christmas Eve and should have some surprise. I didn’t give the present to him directly, but wrote him a letter the day before, which said that the present I had prepared for him was in my hand, so he must follow my directions to find me first. Surely, it was a rather complicated process. Finally, he saw me and felt very excited. I told him to close his eyes and then put the gloves onto his hands. Just at that moment, he hugged me tightly and thanked me for what I had done for him.
An Old Person
The topic I am going to talk about is an old person. The old man I know best is my grandpa. He is already 85 years old and now lives in countryside after his retirement. He is conservative and reluctant to live with my nuclear family, since he thinks we need more freedom. He has a medium build and a little bit overweight with a good complexion and grey hair. He has high cheek bones and thick bushy eyebrows. For his professional work as a surgery doctor, he must be strict. However, he is very sociable and amiable. That’s why he makes so many friends with both young people and older ones. After his retirement, every morning he plays Chinese traditional Taiji in the nearby park. Sometimes, he is invited to attend important seminars to give lectures on his academic accomplishments and experiences in the medical field. I am very proud of my grandpa.
A Book
Well, I would choose a motivating book called Who Moved My Cheese, which is given by my farther and I read several times when I graduated form high school. It is a story about the change that takes place in a maze where four amusing characters look for “cheese”. Here, cheese is a metaphor for what we want to have in life, like a job, a relationship, money, a big house and so on. Each of us has our own idea of what cheese is and the maze stands for where we spend time looking for what we want. The four characters react differently when they find change happened in the maze. The profound book tells us that every day we have to face change in work or in life. What is more important is to learn how to anticipate change, adapt to change quickly, enjoy change and ready to change quickly. Discover the secret for yourself and learn how to deal with the change so that we can suffer less stress and enjoy more successes in life. It is very simple in language, however, every time I read it, I find something new and useful life lesson.
An interesting journey
Well, talking about an interesting journey I experienced, I am still excited about my trip to Tibet, which is located in western China. The Tibetan plateau is the highest region on earth and has been called the “roof of the world”. It was during the national holiday last year that my friend and I decided to have a trip to Tibet, a mysterious place in our imagination. Following a tourist group, we first arrived in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet Lhasa contains the heritage site of the Potala Palace, which was the residence of the Dalai Lama. Also, we visited a number of important temples and monasteries. There was a big climate change during the daytime and the night. Less oxygen made us feel uncomfortable during the trip. However, one of the most adventurous things was that we took a bus trip and witnessed with our own eyes the glory of the Himalayas stretching on the horizon. That was truly a memorable experience.
A Subject
Today my topic is to describe an English class.
Always, the Chinese teaching method is a teacher-oriented teaching method, which means teachers let students learn how to read and write. But our English teacher is a foreigner, so it is a student-centered teaching method, and he focuses on improving students’ listening and spoken English as well. In our English class, our teacher, Mr. Brown, taught us English songs and told many English jokes, and we were overwhelmed with joy and pleasure, sometimes he divided students into small groups, like 4 or 5 students in each group, and let us have a discussion on hot issues on news, such as a movie, ideal job, technology, and so on. Meanwhile, he also taught us memorizing new words and expressions by reading. We gradually found that practicing is more efficient than by purely memorizing, I followed his suggestion, and my English got improved quickly.
