For John Eastwood, the central feature of boredom is that people cannot 24 __________ , due to a failure in what he calls the 'attention system', and as a result they become frustrated and irritable.
For Eastwood, the central feature of boredom is a failure to put our 'attention system' into gear. This causes an inability to focus on anything, which makes time seem to go painfully slowly. What's more, your efforts to improve the situation can end up making you feel worse. 'People try to connect with the world and if they are not successful there's that frustration and irritability, 'he says.
24题空格前的Eastwood出现了,空格后‘attention system’,frustrated and irritable对应frustration and irritability也出现了,答案应在这些信息之间。
Meanwhile, research at the University of Amsterdam revealed that people who have been given oxytocin consider 26 __________ that are familiar to them in their own country to have more positive associations than those from other cultures.
University of Amsterdam ,own country, other cultures等词。
University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands discovered that volunteers given oxytocin showed favouritism: Dutch men became quicker to associate positive words with Dutch names than with foreign ones, for example.
University of Amsterdam 出现了,而own country,other cultures并未直接出现。
Research at the University of Amsterdam revealed that people who have been given oxytocin consider 26 __________ that are familiar to them in their own country to have more positive associations than those from other cultures.
University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands discover that volunteers given oxytocin showed favouritism: Dutch men became quicker to associate positive wordswith Dutch names than with foreign ones, for example.
Dutch men associate positive words with Dutch names 对荷兰人而言,荷兰名字是不是比外国名字更 familiar to them呢?
Petrie and Singh'steam are using archaeological records to look at 35 __________from five millennia ago, in order to know whether people had adapted their agricultural practices to changing climatic conditions.
分析:
本题定位词Petrie and Singh's team, archaeological records ,five millennia ago很好找。
G Petrie and Singh's team is now examining archaeological records and trying to understand details of how people led their lives in the region five millennia ago.
They are analysing grains cultivated at the time, and trying to work out whether they were grown under extreme conditions of water stress, and whether they were adjusting the combinations of crops they were growing for different weather systems.
题目:adapted their agricultural practices to changing climatic conditions / 原文:adjusting the combinations of crops they were growing for different weather systems.
Petrie and Singh's team is now examining archaeological records and trying to understand details of how people led their lives in the region five millennia ago. They are analysing grains cultivated at the time, and trying to work out whether they were grown under extreme conditions of water stress, and whether they were adjusting the combinations of crops they were growing for different weather systems.
题目Petrie and Singh's team are using archaeological records to look at 35 __________from five millennia ago.
原文:Petrie and Singh队伍now examining考察 archaeological records ...... five millennia ago. They are analysing grains cultivated at the time.
