Part2
Describe an area of science (physics, biology, psychology, etc.) that interests you
You should say:
What it is
When you knew it
How you learn it
And explain why you are interested
Well, I've been interested in psychology for quite a long time. I'm fascinated by how the human mind works and why people behave in a particular way in various situations. I mean, I like to figure out why they are doing a certain thing and not something else, stuff like that. I think it all started several years ago after I read a book about the function of brain. I cannot recall the name right now, but it was about each part of the brain with its function. And here are two best parts of the book. When the author talks about a kind of trick that we use to lie our brain. For example, a pill with bule color may makes you believe that it can help more for your sickness than the pill with red color. Another one is the Sunk Cost Fallacy effect. Just like the gamblers, they throw good money after bad decisions, thinking they can turn their luck around. It’s like, “I’ve already spent this much money or time, I got to keep going.” People just don’t wanna toss all the efforts away. From that time, I have found the human mind a pretty interesting topic to explore, and I've read quite a few books and watched a bunch of movies on psychology. I think that a knowledge of psychology is helpful in lots of ways. For example, in the world of business you may need to negotiate with your partner or deal with a client so that you can seal the deal. Then again, in marketing, you really have to understand how consumers think and how to influence your target audience. So, psychology is basically everywhere in our life.
闪光表达:
toss it away 不要了;挥霍无度
seal the deal 达成交易
Part3
1. What is best invention in the past one hundred years?
There are so many. But I gotta say it’s smartphone. I just can’t live without it. It allows me to contact with other people even over a long distance. And with the internet, a smartphone can do everything. Now I can order food online and enjoy a scrumptious meal without stepping out of my house. Online shopping becomes a saver in my life, it’s 24-hour available and it’s possible to buy everything that I want online. Not to mention all those other apps that have made my life easier, like Alipay, I don’t have to carry cash around anymore. Smart phone has become one of the essentials.
2. What is the influence of science on human life?
Science has made human life easier. Like centuries ago, the discovery of fire made it possible for early humans to make better stone tools. Before the existence of fire, stone tools weren't very sharp and did not last long. With fire, early humans can make sharper and stronger tools. They could heat rocks with high temperature, this would make it easier for them to make sharp edges on a stone. They could even make a knife blade. With these tools, they can hunt more efficiently. Besides, fire also improved the quality of people’s diet. Heated vegetables allowed people to get more energy. For instance, when potatoes are heated, they become easier and softer to digest, so people can absorb more calories.
3. What can individuals do for scientific research?
I don’t think individuals have the ability to contribute to scientific research. Because ordinary people don’t have the knowledge and skills to do that. Like me, I may have read some articles or news about science, but it’s definitely hard for me to map out a new theory or conduct a study. Basically, only professionals like scientists, doctors, biologists, those kinds of people are able to do some good to scientific research.
4. What influence can international cooperation in science bring about?
It brings the world a lot. Like the International Space Station Program is one of mankind’s most remarkable achievements. It's also one of the most ambitious, political, scientific collaborations ever. Since it was first launched in 1998, it’s involved a rotating crew of astronauts and visitors from 18 countries, and serious scientific expertise. And the ISS isn’t just a meeting of minds, it’s a meeting of physical components too. The contribution of ISS to astronomy is outstanding that no single country can accomplish these tasks alone.
闪光表达:
a saver in my life 我生活中的救世主
24-hour available 24小时营业
map out a new theory = come up with a new theory 想出一个新的理论
