There are many things a person can do to keep healthy such as doing exercise, going on a diet or quitting alcohol and smoking. The thing I do however, is called a low-carb diet.
Carbs, or carbohydrates are a macronutrient — one of the three primary ways the body takes in energy. Carbs are mostly food like rice noodles, bread, some vegetables, fruit, and milk products. While they are essential to a healthy diet, they can be harmful in excess or eating too much.
I eat a low-carb diet pretty much five days a week and for the other two days, I eat normally because I need the energy from carbs to play basketball.
There are many benefits of eating a low carbs diet. Number one is weight loss. Since carbs can quickly turn into sugar in the body, eating too many will result in a higher level of insulin which is a hormone to tell body to store fat. Therefore, restricting your carb intake will directly lead to quick fat loss within several weeks. Another benefit of this diet is it makes me cook at home more. When we go out to eat, most of the restaurants food are carbs such as rice, noodles, bread, pizza, and burgers. So if I am on a low-carb diet, I eat out or order takeout lot less frequently. In this way, I can save money and also avoid food with high salt and sugar from restaurants.
