Rock music ranked second in both groups, attracting 30% of people aged 25-34and 25% of those in the 15-24 group. In contrast, classical music was least favoured by the youngest group, with only 5% expressing a preference for it, approximately half the proportion of jazz. These two categories were almost equally popular among the 25-to-34 age group, at around 10% each.

    However, preferences among the older age groups followed a different pattern. Rock music was enjoyed by around 35% of 35-44-year-olds and 40% of those aged 45-to-64, making it the most popular type among middle-aged groups. Pop music was also common among the 35-to-44 group (30%), twice the figures for both jazz and classical music. Meanwhile, classical, pop and jazz music shared similar levels of popularity among the 45-64-year-old people, ranging from 20% to 25%. As for the oldest group, classical music dominated listeners’ preferences, representing 35%, compared with just 10% for pop music. Jazz and rock music occupied moderate levels of popularity, with 15% and 20% respectively.
