Doctor Achebe
In recent years, there has been a decline in the popularity of classical music, particularly among young adults (18-25). Classical music now often competes with more contemporary genres for attention. What do you think is the most effective way to reignite an interest in classical music among younger generations? Please provide reasons for your answer.
Claire
One way to get young adults interested in classical music is through more media coverage. Newspapers, TV shows, and online platforms could highlight classical music events, feature popular musicians, or discuss its cultural significance. This would raise awareness and make classical music more visible.
Paul
I think we can hold concerts in public places like shopping malls. These events would expose people to classical music in a casual, everyday setting. Someone walking by might stop to listen, and it could spark their interest. By bringing classical music directly to the public, we can make it more accessible and engaging for younger audiences.
Apart from what Claire and Paul mentioned, I believe another effective way to stimulate young people’s interest in classical music is to incorporate contemporary elements into the genre. While classical music is undeniably beautiful and moving, it often struggles to advance with the times. It is worth-noting that this style of music was once popular at the time it was composed, hundreds of years ago,【主语从句】 so by integrating modern elements such as electronic music, hip-hop, and blues, young people today can engage with classical music while also feeling connected to current trends. Take Hiromitsu Agatsuma, a well-known performer of traditional Japanese musical instrument called Shamisen, for example, he successfully combined Shamisen with other genres of music such as jazz and rock, kindling curiosity in traditional Japanese music among young people not only in Japan, but also in China and worldwide.【非谓语动词作状语】 The same approach can be applied to other types of classical music, so that when composers and players mingle tradition with innovation, they can pass down the culture to the next generation.
It is worth-noting that this style of music was once popular at the time it was composed, hundreds of years ago.
英语中,类似It is worth-noting that的句型还有不少,比如
It is noteworthy that ...
It is clear / obvious that ...
It is quite common these days that ...
It is universally acknowledged that ...
It is a boon / bane that ...
It is a general complaint that ...
It is a worrying situation that ...
He successfully combined Shamisen with other genres of music such as jazz and rock, kindling curiosity in traditional Japanese music among young people not only in Japan, but also in China and worldwide.
incorporate v.
This aircraft incorporates several new safety features.
integrate v.
It’s very difficult to integrate yourself into a society whose culture is so different from your own.
integrate的常见用法是与into搭配,构成词组integrate sb into sth或integrate into sth;而incorporate后面可以直接接包含的事物。
genre n.
advance with the times
engage with v.
kindle v.
Her imagination was kindled by the exciting stories her grandmother told her.
