　　1.spice /spaɪs/
　　spice 本意为: 佐料,调料。
　　e.g. A large range of herbs and spices are used in Sichuan cuisine.
　　那么add spice to life 即给生活加点… 调料吗？？
　　应该是情趣或者趣味。
　　如口语话题：Do you think it is important to celebrate your birthday?
　　Of course! Life can be repetitive /dull sometimes, and a birthday get-together can add a little spice.
　　注：get-together 聚会
　　spice 也可以直接做动词用：I need a birthday party to spice it up a little bit.
　　当然也可以用：a sense of ceremony/ ritual 仪式感！

　　2.  frivolous /'frɪv(ə)ləs/
　　adj.无聊的;无用的;浪费的；
　　也是很多人不喜欢生日的原因,尤其是长大以后，Adult birthdays are never as good as childhood birthdays. It is repetitive, frivolous, and pricey!

　　3. novelty /'nɒv(ə)ltɪ/
　　novelty 词根nov= new
　　novel除了小说还可以作为形容词：新奇的，
　　a novel idea.
　　novelty作为名词：新奇；新颖 / 新奇事物
　　e.g. The novelty of the new job soon wore off, and he became bored with it. 工作的新鲜感很快就过了，他开始厌倦。
　　e.g. Hybrid cars are still a novelty on this remote island. 油电混合车还是个新奇事物呢。
　　另外新的含义：
　　n. a small and unusual decoration or toy 小饰物；小玩具.
　　比如生日收到的一些新奇小玩意：
　　garage kit 手办/ figurine小塑像 / model模型等。
　　或者一些小饰品如: accessory, trinket, ornament

　　4. blast /blɑːst/
　　n. 爆炸；
　　e.g. The bomb blast killed eight people.
　　或者可以表示一股很强劲的，风，水流等
　　a blast of heat/ wind/ cold air 一股热浪/ 强风/冷空气。
　　但是在生日聚会中如果说 have a blast，意为have fun!
　　e.g. You should have come with us last night - we had a real blast!
　　e.g. The party was a blast. (blast:狂欢；愉快的经历)

　　5. 最后我们学习两个习语：
　　(1) paint the town red狂欢；痛饮作乐；
　　Let’s go out and paint the town red!
