本期节目话题参考文本
Back in university, we had lots of project work to do. I was pursuing a degree in business administration. For this one particular assignment, we were divided into teams of 3-4 people to work on a simulation task during the third semester of first year.
Each team had to run a car manufacturing company using a simulation program. We had to make decisions as the simulated market conditions changed and each group’s performance would be compared weekly. At the end of the semester, we would have to prepare a presentation on our project.
We had agreed to meet each other once a week to discuss and check the progress of our work. During that time, occasionally we would discuss urgent matters over email or video calls.
Despite what I considered to be clear communication and constant reminders, a member of our group named Max was often late or even worse, didn’t attend our meetings. This really bothered me in particular, as I had hoped for each member to contribute equally and I truly believed we’d be stronger with his participation. I confronted him about the issues and he seemed to think I was overreacted and it wasn’t a big deal.
After a heated discussion and disagreement, I finally said that you must be on time and present for every meeting from now on or you should go and find yourself another group. Though he remained silent, I think he understood. From that moment onwards, we managed to complete the project with no further problems. This was a really awkward situation for me as Max was actually a great friend of mine outside of school and I was concerned that this could affect our relationship going forward. Fortunately, it didn’t.
