    Question
Your professor is teaching a class on business. Write a post responding to the professor’s question.
In your response, you should do the following.
    - Express and support your opinion.
    - Make a contribution to the discussion in your own words.
An effective response will contain at least 100 words.

    Dr. Diaz
Some educators think that in our global, tech-oriented world, students need to focus on nonfiction texts, such as news stories, technical manuals, or other informational materials. They say that reading poetry, novels, and short stories is not the optimal use of the limited time that students have in the classroom. How do you view this approach to education? Should schools limit the teaching of fictional texts in favor of teaching more practical, nonfiction texts?

    Andrew
Education has to evolve. Nowadays there's an enormous amount of economic and political data freely available online. It's important that students can evaluate this information to understand local and world events in order to be good citizens. Reading fiction is a wonderful hobby but school should prepare students for adult life and its responsibilities.

    Claire
I spent a lot of class time in high school analyzing literature. I'm studying to be an engineer, so I admit that reading fiction in school was not directly applicable to my future occupation, but it did instill in me a love of reading, which is very valuable. I feel better equipped now to understand all sorts of written material.?

Andrew mentioned that nonfiction texts allow students to comprehend events in their local community and the world, while reading fiction cannot prepare them for adult life. Persuasive as it sounds,【让步状语从句】 I would argue that fictional books can serve the same purpose but in a more specific way. Compared with cold and rigid statistics about society in some non-fictional texts, the detailed narration of characters in fiction assists students in perceiving the world. For example, a careful analysis of Runtu, a character created by Luxun in his well-known work “Hometown”, will show today’s students the miserable life of Chinese peasants 100 years ago. His round and ruddy face in the past had already turned pale and grey, indicating how the peasants’ livelihood suffered in the hard economic situation.【非谓语动词作状语】 Literary works like this clearly demonstrate the interaction between personal life experience and the social condition. Although nonfiction texts illustrate the world precisely, they can be too abstract for young people to truly understand. On the contrary, teaching fictional texts provides students with an opportunity to combine what they see in real life and what they learn in theory. Therefore, schools should not limit the teaching time allocated to this form of writing.

Persuasive as it sounds,I would argue that fictional books can serve the same purpose but in a more specific way.
Significant though the home education is, the influence of parents in education is eclipsed by that of professional educators as children grow.

His round and ruddy face in the past had already turned pale and grey, indicating how the peasants’ livelihood suffered in the hard economic situation.

    rigid adj.

    narration n. 叙述
    assist v.

    miserable v.
    ruddy adj.
    livelihood n.
The villagers’ livelihoods depend on the rains.

    allocate v.
