①Rich economies are also less dependent on oil than they were, and so less sensitive to swings in the oil price. ②Energy conservation, a shift to other fuels and a decline in the importance of heavy, energy-intensive industries have reduced oil consumption. ③Software, consultancy and mobile telephones use far less oil than steel or car production. ④For each dollar of GDP (in constant prices) rich economies now use nearly 50% less oil than in 1973. ⑤The OECD estimates in its latest Economic Outlook that, if oil prices averaged $22 a barrel for a full year, compared with $13 in 1998, this would increase the oil import bill in rich economies by only 0.25-0.5% of GDP. ⑥That is less than one-quarter of the income loss in 1974 or 1980. ⑦On the other hand, oil-importing emerging economies—to which heavy industry has shifted—have become more energy-intensive, and so could be more seriously squeezed.

①Rich economies are also less dependent on oil than they were, and so less sensitive to swings in the oil price.
Rich economies are also less dependent on oil than they were,这里写完整是:Rich economies are also less dependent on oil than they were dependent on oil。
  dependent adj.
so less sensitive to swings in the oil price.这里写完整是这样的:so Rich economies are less sensitive to swings in the oil price than they were.
  sensitive adj.
  swing n.

②Energy conservation, a shift to other fuelsand a decline in the importance of heavy, energy-intensive industries have reduced oil consumption.
  energy n.
  conserve vt. —— conservative adj. —— conservation n.
  shift n.
  fuel n. 燃料
  heavy adj.
  intense adj. —— intensive adj. —— intensify vt. —— intensity n.
  consume vt. —— consumption n.

③Software, consultancy and mobile telephones use far less oil thansteel or car production.
  software n. 软件(hardware n.
  consult vt. —— consultant n. —— consultancy n.
  steel n.
  production n.

④For each dollar of GDP (in constant prices) rich economies now use nearly 50% less oil than in 1973.
  constant adj.

⑤The OECD estimatesin its latest Economic Outlook that, if oil prices averaged $22 a barrel for a full year, compared with $13 in 1998, this would increase the oil import bill in rich economies by only 0.25-0.5% of GDP.
  OECD = 经济合作与发展组织(Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development),简称经合组织(OECD),是由38个市场经济国家组成的政府间国际经济组织,旨在共同应对全球化带来的经济、社会和政府治理等方面的挑战,并把握全球化带来的机遇。成立于1961年,目前成员国总数38个,总部设在巴黎。(考研会不断提到这个东西,所以,要知道。)
  estimate vt.
  in部分是状语:in its latest Economic Outlook
  latest adj.
  outlook n.
that, if oil prices averaged $22 a barrel for a full year, compared with $13 in 1998, this would increase the oil import bill in rich economies by only 0.25-0.5% of GDP.
  average vt.
主句部分:this would increase the oil import bill in rich economies by only 0.25-0.5% of GDP
  increase vt. 增加
  bill n.

⑥That is less than one-quarter of the income loss in 1974 or 1980.
  that指代:“0.25-0.5% of GDP”
  income n. 收入。
  loss n. 损失。

⑦On the other hand, oil-importing emerging economies—to which heavy industry has shifted—have become more energy-intensive, and so could be more seriously squeezed.
emerge vt. —— emergeing adj.
  emergeing economy n.
  squeeze vt.
