第二段
①Here is an example, which I heard at a nurses’ convention, of a story which works well because the audience all shared the same view of doctors. ②A man arrives in heaven and is being shown around by St. Peter. ③He sees wonderful accommodations, beautiful gardens, sunny weather, and so on. ④Everyone is very peaceful, polite and friendly until, waiting in a line for lunch, the new arrival is suddenly pushed aside by a man in a white coat, who rushes to the head of the line, grabs his food and stomps over to a table by himself. ⑤“Who is that?” the new arrival asked St. Peter. ⑥“Oh, that’s God,” came the reply, “but sometimes he thinks he’s a doctor.”
①Here is an example, ①which I heard at a nurses’ convention, of a story which works well because the audience all shared the same view of doctors.
an example of a story is here.
比如:here comes the bus
Here is an example, ①which I heard at a nurses’ convention, of a story ②which works well because the audience all shared the same view of doctors.
① which I heard at a nurses’ convention
nurse n. 护士
convention n. —— conventional adj.
the audience all shared the same view of doctors
share vt.
注意:这里的example是有两个定语,其一、which部分定语从句,其二、of部分,of部分是这样的:an example of story.
②A man arrives in heaven and is being shown around by St. Peter.
arrive in:到达
heaven n. 天堂
③He sees wonderful accommodations, beautiful gardens, sunny weather, and so on.
wonderful adj.
accommodate vt. —— accommodation n.
garden n. 花园
sunny adj.
④Everyone is very peaceful, polite and friendly until, waiting in a line for lunch, the new arrival is suddenly pushed aside by a man in a white coat, who ①rushes to the head of the line, ②grabs his food and ③stomps over to a table by himself.
peace n. —— peaceful adj.
polite adj.
waiting in a line for lunch, the new arrival is suddenly pushed aside by a man in a white coat, who ①rushes to the head of the line, ②grabs his food and ③stomps over to a table by himself.
line n.
the new arrival指那个到天堂来的男人(man)
arrive vi. 到达。——arrival n.
who①rushes to the head of the line, ②grabs his food and③stomps over to a table by himself.
grab vt.
stomp vi.
⑤“Who is that?” the new arrival asked St. Peter.
⑥“Oh, that’s God,” came the reply, “but sometimes he thinks he’s a doctor.”
